Gymboree Appoints Beverly Stern SVP, GMM BURLINGAME, Calif., Aug. 15, 2002 – The Gymboree Corporation (Nasdaq: GYMB) today announced the appointment of Beverly Stern as Senior Vice President, General Merchandise Manager of Janie and Jack, the new baby gift shop concept Gymboree will launch this fall. Stern joins Gymboree effective Sept. 16 after a retail-industry career that spans more than twenty years and includes the successful launch and stewardship of babyGap.

“Beverly’s extensive experience in merchandising and new business development will be critical to the success and growth of Janie and Jack and The Gymboree Corporation,” said Lisa Harper, Gymboree’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “We are pleased to have a person as talented as Beverly to complement and lead the gifted team already in place at Janie and Jack.”

In her career, Stern has held senior merchandising, marketing and new business development positions at a variety of retail companies including Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma, as well as Gap, Inc. divisions Gap, Banana Republic and babyGap. Most recently, she held the position of Executive Vice President, Merchandising and Marketing at Dean and Deluca.

Stern, 45, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley.
